The Omnia Zermatt

THE OMNIA is the contemporary interpretation of the traditional mountain lodge. Here in the Swiss Alps, the mountain lodge, a quintessentially American concept, has been reinvented for its European environment by the New York based architect Ali Tayar.

While the materials and the craftsmanship reflect the tradition of the Valais, the furnishings are inspired by a warm, handcrafted modernism. This era in 20th century design is revisited in THE OMNIA in the works of a group of European born, American designers. They include Mies van der Rohe, Raymond Loewy, Vladimir Kagan and Eero Saarinen. Their works are complemented by USM Modular Furniture, which is recognised as a design classic in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. But most of the interior furnishings and fittings are custom-made designs by Ali Tayar, conceived to meet the requirements of the mountain lodge and handcrafted by local cabinet makers.

This subtle interplay between design classics and custom-made products underscores the basic concept of the mountain lodge – THE OMNIA is the fusion of a multitude of different elements and influences to make a single harmonious whole.

THE OMNIA’s beautifully appointed rooms and suites feature warm materials, carefully selected photographs, design classics, Aesop skincare products and unrivalled views of the Matterhorn, the rooftops of the village and swathes of mountain forest.

Backstage Hotel Vernissage

The hotel carries Heinz Julen's signature workmanship throughout and all furnishings are hand crafted in his studio in Zermatt. The six Cube-Lofts are enthusiast pieces, the hip Deluxe and StandART double rooms are creations of contemporary architecture and artistry.

From the first sketches to the concrete and steel work, windows, roof and interior installations, everything was created in the Heinz Julen Atelier in Zermatt. For more than 20 years his sister Vrony has been the co-owner of these holiday rental apartments which Heinz has decorated with modern art.

In autumn 2016, the house infrastructure was updated but the original design was not altered. Starting December 2016, the management of this unique and early work of Heinz Julen has been passed on to his well-known “Backstage Hotel”.

When staying in these apartments, which are located very close to the Klein Matterhorn Lift and about 7 a minute walk from the “Backstage Hotel”, one can enjoy the facilities of the Hotel free of charge- wellness, cinema, transfer to and from the train station, etc. In the summer months, the only heated outdoor swimming pool in Zermatt is available to its guests.

THE VIEW Lugano

As the name suggests, THE VIEW Lugano, situated on the hill of Paradiso, has a beautiful view overlooking the city and the Lake of Lugano and it also has a very clear Vision: to introduce a completely new concept of a Boutique Hotel to Lugano.

SWITZERLAND

If you like to watch television indoors all day, then Switzerland is probably not the place for you. This is a destination of intense natural beauty for travelers who revel in the outdoors, from high peaks to rolling meadows and pristine lakes, and are pleasantly surprised by the cultural treasures of its cities. The main attraction: The Swiss Alps, whose full impact is hard to appreciate until you have stood in their shadow. Walking, hiking, and driving along scenic routes and paths are all possible if you want to unlock a landscape that almost seems too beautiful to be real.

Sure, there’s cheese, chocolate, clocks, and that oft-noted Swiss emphasis on diplomacy and punctuality, but there’s also cosmopolitan cities and a vibrant, multilingual populace that speaks at least a little English along with at least one of the four official languages. It’s more of a melting pot culture than you might expect, and that is one of the many joys of entering Swiss borders.

The varied landscape means weather patterns vary greatly, but summer is a terrific time to visit with warm and sunny days. For skiers, sledders and snowboarders, December and March offer the best powder — along with the best hot chocolate you can imagine.
